My name is Odessa and I am an artist and communications professional based in Seattle, WA.
I earned a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in Philosophy from Hofstra University, where I served as my college newspaper’s copy chief while also reporting for local news outlets in my California hometown. I’ve always had a deep respect for the natural world, and as a young journalist I had the privilege of interviewing leaders in my community about pressing environmental issues that mattered a lot to me.
From there, I spent nearly 4 years leading communications for a clean hydrogen technology company, turning complex climate science into digestible written and visual content including press releases, newsletters, multimedia videos, and social media posts. During this time I also earned a certificate in Science Communication from UC San Diego.
More recently, I am a Master Composter and Sustainability Steward with Seattle Public Utilities and Tilth Alliance, and I am part of the team at North Seattle’s only zero waste market where I help community members reduce waste in their kitchens and pantries. My outlook is also heavily informed by my work in the deathcare industry as a funeral assistant and mortuary transport technician. I am guided by an underlying belief that we humans are part of nature – not above it or separate from it – and that we owe a lot to the creatures we share our world with.
