My name is Odessa and I am a writer, artist, and communications professional based in Seattle, WA.
I earned a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in Philosophy from Hofstra University, where I served as my college newspaper’s copy chief while also working as a reporter for several local news outlets in my California hometown. I’ve always had a deep respect and reverence for the natural world, and as a young reporter I had the privilege of interviewing leaders in my community about pressing environmental issues that mattered a lot to me – I conducted 1:1 interviews with a NASA ecologist, an esteemed conservationist, several Chumash tribal council members, and a US Forest Service representative, to name a few.
From there, I spent nearly 4 years leading communications for a clean hydrogen technology company, turning complex climate science into digestible written and visual content including press releases, newsletters, multimedia videos, and social media posts. During this time I also earned a certificate in Science Communication from UC San Diego.
Today, I do several things. I am a Master Composter and Sustainability Steward through Seattle Public Utilities and Tilth Alliance, and I am part of the team at North Seattle’s only zero waste market where I help community members reduce waste in their kitchens and pantries. I write and make art about animal rights, and I also have a strong passion for (and knowledge of) deathcare and the green funeral industry, as I spent the better part of 2025 working as a mortuary transport technician and funeral assistant, an experience and an honor that I carry with me every day.
I am guided by an underlying belief that we humans are part of nature – not above it or separate from it – and that we have an obligation to leave the world better than we found it. If you or your organization shares this sentiment, I would love to connect with you!
